PLACES OF INTEREST
The Croft is a good central base from which to explore Newark, Lincoln and surrounding areas and there's much to see and do.
Historic uphill Lincoln has a Cathedral and Castle, museums and restaurants, shopping and much more. The Cathedral and Castle are open daily offering guided tours.
The lovely old market town of Newark has a castle, boat rides on the river, market days, theatre, good restaurants and pubs.
In the opposite direction, through delightful countryside is Gainsborough which offers shopping on a small scale at Marshall's Yard or you can visit Gainsborough Old Hall for a historic treat.
More locally is Doddington Hall and Gardens (check times of opening) Farm Shop, Café and Restaurant, Whisby Nature park with lots of lovely walks, a shop and café, and also several well stocked garden centres close by.
For families, there is much to do within the vicinity: boat rides, parks with play areas, animal fun farms, and swimming pools at local sports centres, family restaurants and nature parks.
A golf range and fishing are also close to hand.
The village of Collingham is six miles away, there are walks around the village displayed on a board next to the Co-op.
The river Trent is close by and offers lovely walks along its banks and back through villages nestled along side.
Four miles from The Croft you can travel by train to Lincoln and Newark, or even the seaside, which is about 40 miles away. The Cleethorpes train pulls in alongside the beach, while Skegness, a larger resort, is a short walk through the centre of the town.
North Scarle has a local bus service running to Lincoln and Newark, please ask for the timetable.
There are many off road cycle tracks in the surrounding area again giving access to Lincoln and Newark.
If you are using your own vehicle we can advise you for the easier routes for local excursions; and we can inform you of dates for big attractions locally i.e. Lincolnshire and Newark and Notts County Shows, Antiques Fairs and the Lincoln Christmas market.
